Welcome to the very first day of twelve days of wonderful giveaways here at Beautiful You in celebration of the festive season and the end of 2011. Welcome also to my new look website which I hope you love! I’m really enjoying the more streamlined look.
The first giveaway is for the eight part DVD series of ‘The Slap’ based on the book of the same name by Christos Tsiolkas. ‘The Slap’ has just finished screening on the ABC and is available to purchase from today, December 1st. I was fortunate enough to be sent a preview screening of ‘The Slap’ and it is undoubtedly one of the best things I have watched all year.
From the perspective of eight different character narrators, ‘The Slap’ recounts the story of a suburban family and friends celebration that comes to an abrupt end when an adult male slaps a child not his own son. The incident and entire series is filled with blame and forgiveness, loathing and love, drama and redemption as the parents of the child decide to press charges in defence of their son. It is tension filled to the point of uncomfortability but in many ways that self experienced tension is because of the questions ‘The Slap’ raises for you the viewer…
Is it ever ok to hit a child?
Where does family end and friendship begin?
Where does friendship end and family begin?
Can violence ever be forgiven?
What constitutes good parenting?
Can a marriage survive infidelity?
‘The Slap’ is superbly directed and acted featuring some of Australia’s finest actors including Alex Dimitriades, Melissa George, Jonathan LaPaglia and Sophie Lowe. I was absolutely riveted from the first episode and found it difficult to not watch every episode one after the other. Rated M it’s not for childrens’ eyes, but absolutely something both men and women would enjoy and find incredibly thought provoking and mmoving.
I have a copy of the full series of ‘The Slap’ on DVD to giveaway. Entry is very simple as per the guidelines below. Good luck Beautiful You!

The best thing about my family is that they go much further than DNA. They’re people who’ve helped fight for me, when I’ve not been strong enough to fight for my self. Friends, who’ve soon become ‘sisters’ are the most important, and best, part of my family!
The best thing about my family is that we are all very unique, but we are bonded, not so much by blood (we are mixed family) but by our relationships. These are bonded over our meals together and navigating our lives both together and independently. We are team players!
The best thing about my family is how everyone has their own unique personality that makes them – them! And yet, there are qualities that makes us all the same. It’s the acceptance of these qualities that makes us special.
Oooh, it’s a tough one to answer… I’ve never thought about it – they’re just my family, always there!
There’s not just one thing. Each person has something about them that means the relationship with them is better than with anyone else. My mum – her unwavering devotion, my cousin – I can be myself, my husband – his unending support, my best friend – her ability to just ‘get’ it (and me!)…
I guess the best thing about ‘family’ as a whole though, is the dynamic concept it has now become. No longer just mum, dad and two kids!
The best thing about my family is that they love me unconditionally. They know all my (many!) faults and love and support me anyway! As I do them
YAY for family!
The best thing about my family is that I have them in my life to love, laugh…and yes there is lot’s of laughter! share , cry and experience all that be a family brings. We support each other and make time for each other. We count on each other to be in our corner when we need reminding to get back up on our feet and give it our best no matter what challenges are thrown our way. I love my Family!
The best thing about my family is that despite the distance the love we have for each other keeps growing everyday.
My grandparents are the best thing in my family.
My parents (if you want to call them that) are not very parental…but that’s why we have our grandparents. If my Brothers and Sisters and I didn’t have our grandparents we would have missed out on so many things they are amazing.
Even though they are older and not so quick these days it has never stopped and still nothing stops them from helping us in anyway they can.
If its just a hug or paying for a school trip we always knew they would do what ever they can to help.
The thing I love most about my family is our resilience. No matter what life seems to throw in our paths, somehow we manage to work through it (or step over it) to come out stronger and more beautiful on the other side.
Thank you all so much for entering Day 1 of the Christmas Giveaway. I’m pleased to announce that the winner is Norlin. Congratulations!
