The Staircase to Success

My Grandfather once told me “There’s no such thing as luck.”  His thinking was that anything someone owned, or achieved, or experienced, was something that had come to them through commitment and hard work.  We never got to talking about Tattslotto (!), but I fully appreciate now as an adult what his meaning was.
So often we can look at other people’s lives and think they are so “lucky” and much more blessed or fortunate than we are.  This can give rise to feelings of jealousy and inadequacy regarding the way we feel about ourselves and our own life, which undoubtedly places a large dent in our self esteem and confidence.
The thing we often don’t realise when we compare ourselves to others is that there are so many things that have constituted someone’s success or made up the grit, determination, commitment and courage that has gone into their achievements.  We can make assumptions about how ‘easy’ things come to others, when truthfully, just as this little saying implies, success is a climb and involves effort and hard work.  It’s not something that just…happens.
Success of course looks and feels different to all of us – just as it should.  Whatever success or dream you are working towards at the moment I hope you can see a staircase in front of you rather than just a door.  I like to visualise a staircase with a door at the top.  Lots of small steps, leading to an opportunity or an opening.
What are you aiming and climbing towards at the moment?  Whatever it may be – enjoy that stairway to success.
