Glamorous Curves

Gorgeous.  Beautiful.  Stunning.  Amazing.
Just some of the thoughts that ran through my mind when I saw this photo from Glamour Magazine.

Seems the frenzy that gorgeous model Lizzi Miller created which I blogged about here,
has sent a jolt through Glamour magazine and they are responding to readers requests to have more plus sized and ‘real’ sized women on their pages.  Seems like we have been going on for eons now about wanting to see more diverse body shapes in magazines. Has anyone been listening?  Occasionally I think they have been, but if we are real about this, the model ‘norm’ is still very much thin, thin, thin.
While this photograph is undoubtedly beautiful and a step in the right direction, the real proof now will be if Glamour continues to use models of ALL shapes and sizes, REGULARLY in their pages.  My previous post on this hoped they would and this is a wonderful follow up. I fervently hope these beautiful women and many others like them will soon be appearing alongside ‘regular’ models to the point where they will be seen as just models and not ones that are separated out via terms like ‘plus sized’.
Please Glamour – keep it up.  Don’t drop the ball.  You are charging ahead, but must keep up the momentum.

Beautiful You’ is watching!

I've always been a fan of plus-size models! There's a great site with many images of plus-size models here:

They're all gorgeous.

The site's forum also has thought-provoking discussions about body image and the media.

I also wonder if Glamour will be able to continue what it has started.

A few months ago, Shop Til You Drop magazine had a fantastic 4 page spread on the lack of plus size fashion in Australia. Their fat readership responded positively. The next issue featured one plus size item and two plus size ads. The month after that, nothing at all. It was SO frustrating.

Glamour has gotten a lot of media attention over these two articles, so at least they are under some scrutiny to keep up their size acceptance.
